Your personal car care centre
Steve
Maxwell has been around cars nearly all his life. Not that the owner of Maxwell’s
Auto Repair had any choice, his father Al Maxwell opened his first garage in centretown
when Steve was born. His
first garage was at Laurier and Lyon. Then he moved to Sussex, then Dalhousie
and then Beechwood, recalls Maxwell who started pumping gas for his father
when he was 14-years-old.
The
elder Maxwell eventually opened a Gulf station at the corner of Jeanne d'Arc Blvd.
and Fortune Drive in 1979. After
16 years in the same location, Al and Steve Maxwell decided to get out from under
the thumb of the large gas company that owned the station and opened their own
independent garage at 1455 Youville Dr. in January 1995. Over
the years, first father and now his son have earned a reputation of fairness and
honesty that is rare in the car repair industry and they have done so one client
at a time. In fact, a number of clients have been die hard customers since the
early centretown days. Theres
still a few old-timers who keep coming back, Maxwell says with obvious pride.
BBesides
having a reputation for being honest and fair, Maxwells is also known for
their personalized service always taking the time to explain to their clients
the work that has to be done immediately or safely put off to a later date.
Its
about treating each client with respect. When you think about it, theyre
showing a lot of trust by bringing their car to us in the first place, says
Maxwell. Theres a big fear of the unknown when they come in and our
job is to put them at ease by taking the time to explain what the problem is and
how we can fix it. The
obvious by-product of their philosophy in dealing with customers is the high number
of referrals they get. Weve
been very fortunate in that we have a loyal customer base who have turned out
to be our biggest advertisers, says Maxwell. Two-thirds of the new
clients that come through the door have been referred to us by someone. Beyond
mere reputation, Maxwells is known for doing quality work at a fair price
due in no small part to their staff of dedicated service technicians. Norm, James
and Roy have been fixing cars for years, working on every type of vehicle under
the sun. If
it has wheels and an engine, Maxwells trained technicians know how to pinpoint
the problem and fix it right the first time. At
Maxwells they can handle all types of major and minor repairs, wheel alignments,
air conditioning repairs and provincial safety inspections. Away
from the garage, Maxwells is committed to supporting minor hockey in the
east end having sponsored dozens of teams over the years. Maxwell's
is located at 1455 Youville Dr. in Orleans (see map) and
is open from Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Return
