Move
over Steffi D., there's a new singing idol in town and she's looking to
follow in your footsteps. On Sunday, 10-year-old Lindsay White blew the
judges away at the Capital Parents and Kids Show to win the Capital Kids
Idol Contest.
Amazingly the
école Arc-en-Ciel student has only been performing on stage for 18 months,
although she's been singing all her life.
"I sing
all the time. I even sing in my sleep," says Lindsay who was on stage
singing in the Gloucester Music Club concert less than eight hours after
her Capital Kids Idol performance.
Not surprisingly,
Lindsay's favourtie television show is American Idol. Her favourite contestant
on the show is Melinda Doolittle, but her real idol is fellow Orleans resident
Steffi Didomenicantonio, better known as Steff D., who finished fourth on
Canadian Idol last year.
To win the Capital
Kids Idol Contest, Lindsay had to first compete against 15 other young singers
on Saturday. Of the 15, she was the only one invited back to compete against
11 other performers on Sunday. In the end, it was her name that was called
out as the winner.
"I was
really surprised," says Lindsay who was a finalist to sing on a Polly
and the Pockets CD last year.
More than 3,600
kids from across Canada auditioned for the project and Lindsay made it to
the final 10. For her audition she sang "I Can't Wait" by Hilary
Duff.
Lindsay says
she plans to keep singing as much as she can and wants to one day get into
musical theatre. To that end, she's currently taking classes with Orleans
Young Players. At the rate she's going, she has a bright future indeed.
