Police issue warning after attempted abduction in Navan

The Ottawa Police Service are warning school-aged children in the far east end to be on the lookout for a red pickup truck with rust over the wheel-wells after an attempted abduction in Navan early Thursday morning.

According to the OPS, a 12-year-olkd girl was waiting for her school bus by herself at the corner of Henn Drive and Loper Street shortly after 7 a.m. when she was approached by an English-speaking white male wearing a black balaclava and driving a red extended cab pickup truck. The man got out of the truck and demanded that she get in. Rather than follow his demand, she ran to a nearby friend's house.

The neighbour called the police, but by the time they arrived the red truck was long gone.

The Ottawa Police Service is asking parents to remind their kids to be wary of strangers stopping them to ask for directions and under no circumstances should they approach the vehicle. When such instances occur they should be reported as soon as possible to the police by calling 613-236-1222.
