Orléans girls warned off Ottawa River ice near Hiawatha Park By Fred Sherwin Orléans Online
Emergency
crews responded in force to a call in Convent Glen North on Saturday after two
girls were spotted walking on the ice-covered Ottawa River near Hiawatha Park
at around 3 p.m. An
Ottawa Fire Service water rescue crew, police and paramedics all descended on
the spot where two young girls had wandered out on to an ice bridge about 120
metres wide. Although
the girls were in no immediate danger, they were told to stay off the ice because
the thickness is often unpredictable due to the strong current. (This
story was made possible thanks to thie generous support of our local
business partners.) Return
