By now
most people have heard of Alex Lacasse. The 17-year-old Fallingbrook resident
has been a fixture at events in the community for the past seven years now along
with fellow local entertainer Kira Isabella. During
most of his young career Lacasse has sung pop standards from the 50s and 60s to
mainly older audiences. But as he got older he wanted to explore newer music and
began writing his own songs.. Then
last year he recorded a demo of an original song called "So Into You"
and dropped it by the Ottawa radio station Magic 100. They, in turn, forwarded
it a radio station in Toronto where it received limited air play. The
demo eventually found its way into the hands of the talent team at Universal Music
who were so impressed they signed him to a contract. After
a bit of polishing, Lacasse recorded a second song entitled "Like This, Like
That" which was released on iTunes earlier this month and began to get some
air time in Toronto. Last
week, he was at the Hot 89.9 studios downtown where it was played in Ottawa for
the first time. The song is expected to go in regular circulation this week and
will be part of a five song EP due to be released next fall. None
of which has phased the the laid back Sir Wilfrid Laurier Secondary School student. "It's
been really exciting. When they debuted my song on Hot 89.9 it was like a dream
come true," said Lacasse during a recent photo shoot at the Fallingbrook
Metro store. "This is something I've been working on my whole life. All the
hard work is paying off and I'm really excited to see what's goign to happen next.". Besides
writing his own stuff, Lacasse also recently wrote a song for the all-girl group
Girlicious called "Over You" which has been getting air play on Top
40 stations across North America.. Lacasse
describes his music as sounding a bit like Justin Timberlake with some auto-tracking
to give it a more modern feel. Lacasse
has three more months of school left, after which he plans to focus on his musical
career full-time. "I'll
have all the prerequisites I need to go to university if things don't work out,
but I'm definitely going to focus on my career and see how far I can go,"
said Lacasse who could just go all the way to the top. (This
story was made possible thanks to the generous support of our local
business partners.) Return
