Delorey has never been one to follow the rest of the pack. The man who brought
the fitness boot camp concept to Orléans three years ago, has opened a new fitness
centre in Canotek Park filled with some very unique apparatus that will make your
workout anything but ordinary. 180°
Fitness is Delorey's latest project. The gym, which is located at 5300 Canotek
Rd., contains equipment that you won't find in your average fitness centre such
as kettle bells, sledgehammers and Indian clubs. There's
also three large bungee cords attached to one of the walls. Members put on harnesses
and then run against the force of the bungee cords. When they get to a certain
point, they step backwards until the tension eases and then do another 10 or 15
repetitions. The
gym is also equipped with several pairs of thick heavy rope which are attached
to a wall. Members can use the ropes in a variety of ways to work on their upper
arms and shoulders. Last
but least, there are straps that are attached to the ceiling in pairs. At the
end of each strap is a loop of thick rope called a Bandit Loop. The straps can
be raised or lowered depending on the exercise you are doing. They're great for
inclined push-ups, raised sit ups and other exercises. Delorey
uses the unique apparatus to mix up the workout routine for each class, so that
no two classes are the same. "The
reason I chose the name 180° Fitness is because I really want to take fitness
in a different direction," says Delorey. "You won't find any treadmills
here, or any stationary bikes. I never want to follow anyone in this business.
If you're following someone, that means you're not leading and I like to lead." Delorey
also plans to infuse each class with the same level of high energy enthusiasm
that have become a trade mark of his indoor and outdoor fitness boot camps which
he will still be offering after the gym opens its doors. For
