St. Peter C.H.S. reunion slated for Thanksgiving weekend

St.
Peter Catholic High School is marking it's 20th anniversary
this year and to celebrate a group of former teachers
and alumni are organizing a reunion during Thanksgiving
weekend.
The
school opened it's doors in September 1992, the same year
"Achy Breaky Heart" was topping the pop charts
and "Silence of the Lambs" won the Academy Award
for Best Picture.
Other
prominent events that occured in 1992 include Hurricane
Andrew; the Westray mine disaster; the Charlottetown Accord
was rejected in anationwide referendum; and Dr. Roberta
Bondar became the first Canadian woman in space. Ralph
Klein was elected Premier of Alberta and the North American
Free Trade Agreement was signed.
Some
of the school's more famous alumni include singer Keisha
Chante, NHL member Jonathan Matsumoto and Canadian senior
basketball Olympic team member Courtney Pilypaitis.
The
reunion will kick off with a series of meet and greet
events on Wednesday, Oct. 24based on the particpant's graduation
year. Alumni who graduated between 1993 and 1997 will
meet at Jonny Canuck's Bar and Grill; graduates from 1998
to 2002 will meet at the Broadway Bar and Grill on Portobello
Blvd.; 2003 to 2006 grads will meet at the Barely Mow;
and the more recent graduates will meet at D'Arcy McGee's
on Centrum Blvd.
The
school will be open to families the following day with
entertainment, a BBQ lunch and co-ed touch football and
basketball. The day will be topped off with a dance in
the cafetorium featuring a group of alumni calling themselves
The Beer Nuts. Pariticipants will have to purchase tickets
for the evening event at a cost of $25 per ticket.
A
mass will also be held on Wednesday, Oct. 24at 10 a.m. The
mass will be presided over by Msgr. Leonard Lunney who
presided over the schools opening mass and blessing in
1992.
Orgainizers
are encouraging people to register for the Friday and
Saturday events as soon as possible so they can get a
