The
Coalition Martial Arts Studio and the Orléans Legion
are holding a joint open house on Monday, Oct. 1to
help raise money to repair the Legion cenotaph damaged
by vandals last month.
Free
introductory kickboxing and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes
will be offered at the Martial Arts Studio from 10 a.m.
to 2 p.m. with voluntary donations going towards the memorial
restoration. There will also be a BBQ with all sales proceeds
going towards the restoration.
Members
of the public will also be able to meet retired veterans
and active service Canadian Forces members who will be
available to talk to the public about military history
and the important role the Legion plays in the community..
The
Coalition Martial Arts Studio is located at 790 Taylor
Creek Rd. right beside the Legion. The Taylor Creek Business
Park is located across from the Trim Road park and ride.
Legion
president Jim Fergsuon says the funds will be used primarily
for repairs. If any funds are left over they will be placed
in a trust fund for the monument's ongoing upkeep.
(This
story was made possible thanks to their generous support
of our local business
partners.)
