Hwy. 174 eastbound lanes to reopen Monday afternoon

East
end commuters will be thrilled to find out that all three
eastbound lanes on Hwy. 174 will be reopened for Monday's
drive home, ending two weeks of headaches and aggravation
caused by a collapsed culvert.
The
collapsed culvert opened up a large sinkhole during the
afternoon rush hour on Tuesday, Sept. 4, which in turn
swallowed up a Hyundai Accent owned by Orléans
resident J.P. Unger.
The
sinkhole grew overnight, forcing the City to close the
eastbound lanes indefinitely while they waited for a replacement
pipe.
On
Thursday, the City was able to open a single eastbound
lane using the lefthand shoulder on the westbound side.
City
crews have been working around the clock in a race to
open the eastbound lanes in time for Monday's rush hour.
The Jeanne d'Arc Blvd. off-ramp will remain closed, however,
until that portion of the work is completed, likely by
midweek.
(This
story was made possible thanks to their generous support
of our local business
partners.)
