Public
board secondary students looking forward to resumption
of extra curricular activities

Area
public board secondary school students are looking forward
to the resumption of extra curricular activities after
the OCDSB reached a tentative labour agreement with its
high school teachers on Wednesday.
Most
of the teachers had suspended their services for sports,
music, drama and other after school activitites as part
of a province wide strike action although their were some
exceptions. Sir Wilfrid Laurier Secondary School fielded
a senior boys football team and teachers at Colonel By
Secondary School ignored the directive altogether.
Students
at Cairine Wilson were especially impacted by the strike
as participation was cancelled in a number of sports including
girls basketball, boys volleyball and cross county running.
If
the tentatve deal is ratified by the province and the
board, teachers could resume their after school activities
next week. This may or may not save the boys basketball
season for public board high schools, but it will mean
that high school sports will resume as usual in the new
year, which is good news for area high school athletes.
