Mayfair
Theatre forced to close after landlord terminates lease
By Fred Sherwin

The
Mayfair Theatre is closing its doors after a little more
than a year in business.
The
second run theatre had fallen well behind in its rent
payments, forcing the landlord to terminate the lease.
The
theatre's management made the surprising announcement
on their Facebook page on Wednesday.
"The
landlord has terminated the lease for the Mayfair Orleans
and we have been required to close immediately... We have
been trying to work with the landlord to come up with
suitable arrangements so that the theatre could continue
operating. We believed that progress on this front was
being made but obviously this has not played out as we
wanted it to. We want to thank all of our dedicated members
and customers in Orleans. We really appreciate the support
that has been provided to us over the past year. We want
to remind everyone that we're still open for business
at the Downtown Mayfair location."
The
announcement comes eight months after the theatre successfully
ran a membership drive to keep the doors open last spring.
At that time they had 2,500 members.
(This
story was made possible thanks to their generous support
of our local business partners.)
