Orléans
lawyer David Bertschi drops out of Liberal leadership race

Orléans
lawyer David Bertshci has withdrawn from the Liberal leadership
race to concentrate on his law practice and focus on contesting
the local Liberal nomination in Ottawa-Orléans.
Unable
to attract the "critical mass" of support needed
to have a serious shot at becoming the party's next leader,
Bertschi will continue to do whatever he can to help return
the Liberals to power.
Bertshi's
decision comes a week after former astronaut and Liberal
MP Marc Garneau dropped out of the race, paving the way
for what will almost certainly be a Justin Trudeau coronation.
Although
Bertsch balked at endorsing another candidate, he did
reiterate his opposition to a possible alliance with the
NDP which is being suggested by leadership candidate and
Liberal MP Joyce Murray.
Bertschi
came under criticism during his leadership bid for not
being an elected MP, something he considered a plus as
it allowed him to bring a fresh set of eyes and a fresh
way of doing things to the race.
With
two years to go before the next federal election, Bertschi
plans to support whoever is chosen as the next Liberal
leader and focus his efforts on unseating Ottawa-Orléans
incumbent Royal Galipeau, who he lost to in the last election
by almost 4,000 votes.
