Sir Wil to host special flu shot clinic today

Ottawa Public Health is holding a special flu shot clinic at Sir Wilfrid Laurier Secondary School today as concerns grow over the spread of the H1N1 virus better known as swine flu.

There have been 141 confirmed flu cases in Ottawa so far this flu season, many of which are of the H1N1 strain.

Dr. Carolyn Pim, the city's associate medical officer of health, says H1N1 can present as more severe among at-risk groups.

"People with chronic health conditions and young children under five years of age," says Dr. Pim. "We know that about half of our cases in children under five have been hospitalized, so it certainly can be severe in some people."

Today's special clinic will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
