Orléans to get permanent Hydro One operations centre

By Fred Sherwin
Orléans Online

Hydro One has announced plans to set up a permanent operations centre to serve customers in Orléans, Cumberland, Navan and Rockland. The utility is also investing $33.4 million in a new transmission station.

According to Energy Minister Bob Chiarelli the investments will "totally minimize" the likelihood of future brownouts and blackouts in the area.

It will also ensure that when there is damage that occurs by way of an ice storm, or fires or some kind of extreme weather event, Hydro One will be able to get it up and running a lot quicker than they otherwise would.

The operations centre will be located near Navan at 3450 Frank Kenny Rd. just south of Colonial Rd. The centre and new transmission station are expected to be in service by the spring of 2015.

Hydro One and Ottawa Parks are also in discussions to build a cricket pitch near the station.
