A 20-year-old male is in custody after the 18-year-old daughter of an Ottawa police officer was abducted outside her Orléans home on Tuesday.

According to media reports, Harmony Nhin, 18, was abducted by her ex-boyfriend just before 4 p.m. The incident touched off an urgent request for the public's help in locating a black 2000 BMW 328i.

The terrifying ordeal came to an end nearly six hours later when units from the OPP and the Ottawa Police Service managed to force the vehicle to a stop on Hwy. 416 near Fallowfield Road.

Police placed Andrew Bettencourt, 20, in custody pending formal charges, while Nhin was returned home unharmed.

According to the Ottawa Sun, Nhin is the daughter of an Ottawa police officer.

People with Facebook accounts bearing the same names as Bettencourt and Nhin had been listed as “in a relationship” starting in August. The woman’s Facebook relationship status changed to “single” last week.

Police are continuing their investigation, which has now been turned over to the Ottawa Police Major Crimes Section.
