The Orléans business community celebrated some of their own on Thursday during the 12th annual Business Excellence Awards at the Ottawa Conference and Event Centre.

Awards were handed out in 13 different categories starting with the Retail Business of the Year which was presented to Orléans Boat World co-owner Marc Savage.

The Business Excellence Awards are open to members of the Orléans Chamber of Commerce. Voting took place online between Nov. 14 and Jan. 7 and was open to members of the public.

This year's big winner was Sante Chriopratic and Wellness Centre owner Dr. Nathalie Beauchamp who won a pair of awards for Healthcare Professional of the Year and Small Business of the Year. She was also a finalist for Business Person of the Year.

"I've been in community for 17 years. It's humbling. It's heart-warming to know that a lot of people use my services and appreciae what I do. It's very humbling," said Dr. Beauchamp after picking up her second award of the night.

The award for Large Business of the Year went to the Promenade Retirement Residence, while real estate broker Paul Rushforth was named Business Person of the Year.

Upon accepting his award Rushforth thanked his wife and his entire real estate team for making Paul Rushforth Real Estate the third fastest growing business in Ottawa last year. He also recognized the entrepreneurial spirit of his fellow small business owners in the room.

"Kudos to all of you. I know the challenges you face and I encourage you to keep at it because you are truly the back bone of the community," said Rushforth.

Other honourees included Josée Virgo for Professional of the Year; Orleans Autopro for Service and Sales Business of the Year; Rangoli Indian Cuisine for Restaurant of the Year; Patricia Bonacci for Financial Services Business of the Year; Moksha Yoga Orléans for Arts, Leisure and Recreation Business of the Year; Brian Eustace from Paul Rushforth Realty for Realtor of the Year; the Orléans Army Cadets for Community/Non-Profit Organization of the Year; and Stephen Blais for Community Service Business of the Year.
