Monette to run again despite promise to step down after two terms

After hearing from his supporters, Orléans Ward Coun. Bob Monette has decided to run for a third term despite a commitment made in 2006 and again in 2010 to only serve two terms.

The 61-year-old Monette told the Ottawa Sun that he has been "reinvigorated" by the "overwheming" support he's received to run again.

"I have had an overwhelming response that I should run again," Monette told the Sun. "I'm far from being stale. In fact, I'm more invigorated than ever with the task at hand."

Monette had been an ardent supporter of a two-term limit for city councilllors and said that he would step down after his second term which comes to an end next fall.

Monette plans to make his candidacy official during a kick-off event on Feb. 25. No one else has so far registered to run in the ward.
