Orléans residents have another option to get to Petrie Island after OC Transpo announced plans fto provide summer service from Place d'Orléans to the east end recreation destination.

Route 198 will operate between Place d'Orléans and Petrie Island with a stop at the Trim Road park and ride lot. The service will begin on Friday , June 21 and will operate on every 30 minutes from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on weekends and holidays only throughout the summer.

Orléans city councillor Bob Monette says the new service should help boost the number of visitors to the island which has several kilometrs of nature trails, a marina, Steumer Park and a supervised beach.

It will also provide visitors to the Greater Orléans Canada Day Celebration, Carivibe, and Haiti en Fete with another option to get to the three events. Visitors to the Canada Day Celebration will have the extra bonus of being able to ride for free thanks to OC Transpo's "Ride Free All Day" promotion on July 1.
