Hwy. 174 closed east of Trim after vehicle collides with transport truck

Highway 174 remains closed between Trim Road and Cameron Street after a four-door compact car collided with a tanker truck at around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday night, forcing the tanker truck into a ditch.

The jaws of life had to be used to extricate the 21-year-old driver of the compact car from her vehicle. She was then rushed to the Ottawa Hospital trauma centre where she is being treated for serious head injuries.

The driver of the tanker truck was not seriously injured and the truck was not carrying any hazardous materials at the time of the crash. Even so the Ottawa Fire Department's HAZMAT truck was called in as a precaution.

Members of the Ottawa Police Service are currently investigating the cause of the accident and the highway will remain closed through the morning rush hour. Motorists are being rerouted down Old Montreal Road which is being used as a detour.
