The Miracle League of Ottawa initiative to build a special needs baseball diamond in Notre-Dame-des-Champs was the centre of attention on Sunday as TSN and the Kraft Celebration Tour arrived in Ottawa to celebrate the project during the SportsCentre broadcast outside the Aberdeen Pavillion at Landsdowne Park.

The Miracle League of Ottawa initiative is one of 10 projects throughout Canada that is in the running for a cool $100,000. The 10 finalists were announced earlier ths summer sparking an online vote in which thousands of Canadians cast their ballot for their favourite project. The winner will be announced on TSN at 6 p.m. today.

Even if the Miracle League doesn't get the top prize, they will still get a $25,000 cheque which will nudge them closer to their $1 million goal. So far they raised just over $725,000, including $36,500 presented to them on Sunday by the Rotary Clubs of Ottawa Centre, Ottawa-Orléans and Ottawa South. They received another $100,000 from BFI Canada and Friends of the Mer Bleu.

If all goes well construction will begin to retrofit the existing baseball diamond behind the Notre-Dame-des-Champs Community Centre on Navan Road into a special needs field of dreams.
