Maintenance worker struck and killed on 174

A maintenance worker was struck and killed by an SUV while cutting grass in the median of Hwy. 174 just east of the Montreal Road exit just before 1 p.m. on Thursday afternoon.

The SUV was travelling eastbound on the highway when it left the road for an unknown reason, entered a small depression in the median and struck the victim who was working with several other colleagues.

The force of the accident severely damaged the front end of the vehicle. The driver was transported to the Ottawa Hospital's Civic campus where he was treated for serious but non-life threatening injuries to his face, head and ba

Police closed the highway between Jeanne d'Arc and Montreal Road for several hours to allow investigators to examine the scene and determine the cause of the accident.
