Grads
surprise Lumber Kings in Pembroke, end four game losing skid
By Fred Sherwin

The Cumberland
Grads ended their four game losing streak with an impressive 5-2 road win
in Pembroke on Friday, and they did it with a couple of goals from some
unlikely sources.
Prior to Friday
night, Sean Bamford, Brett Madigan and Kevin Tansey had a grand total of
three goals between them in 23 games. All three players would factor into
the scoring against the Lumber Kings, along with Brent Bisdee and Michael
Borkowski who got the Grads going with an unassisted goal at the 1:24 mark
of the first period.
After Keith Clark
tied the game midway through the opening stanza, Bamford scored his first
goal in 18 games on a shorthanded effort with 2:50 left to go before the
first intermission.
Tansey's second
goal in 19 games would give the Grads a two goal cushion midway through
the second period. Borkowski then assisted on Bisdee's goal at the 5:02
mark of the third to put Cumberland up by three.
Tyler Tosunian
would give the Pembroke fans reason to hoope for a comeback when he scored
26 seconds later, but the wind was taken completely out of their sails when
Madigan scored his third of the season les than two minutes after that while
the Grads were enjoying the man advantage.
The win is huge
for Cumberland, which was heading in the wrong direction fast after losing
their last four games. The two points they picked up will keep them among
the top four in the overall standings, although several teams below them
have a couple of games in hand.
Their next game
is against the Hawkesbury Hawks on Sunday at the Navan Arena. Game time
is 3 p.m.
