curler skips rink into Canadian Junior final By
Fred Sherwin Orléans Online Orléans
curler Rachel Homan is one win away from the Canadian Junior Curling championship
after her Ottawa Curling Club rink won both their round robin games on Thursday
to earn a berth in Sunday's final. Homan
and her teammates Emma Miskew, Laura Crocker and Lynn Kreviazuk.improved their
round robin record to a perfect 10-0 on Thursday with wins over Manitoba and Nova
Scotia.
The
Homan rink is attempting to exercise the demons of last year's championship final
which they lost 7-4 to the defending champions from Manitoba. Although
they still have two round robin games left on Friday, the Homan and company have
already earned an automatic berth in Sunday's final where they will face the winner
of the semi-final to be played on Saturday. "It's
pretty exciting getting right back to where we were last year," said Homan
in an interview on Thursday,"but we still have two more games that we want
to win and try and go undefeated this year. We weren't last year, so it's another
goal of ours." The
Homan rink owes much of their success to their willingness to play in senior women's
events where they've done fairly well. They managed to earn a berth in the "Road
to the Roar" Olympic pre-trial in November where they won their first two
games before bowing out. One of their wins was against Quebec women's champions
Marie-France Larouche. Sunday's
women's final will be televised on TSN at 2:30 p.m. (This
