CJHL Hockey
Ouellette has another big game against former teammates

When Cumberland Grads head coach and general manager Paul Flindall traded Mathieu Ouellette to the Cornwall Colts last month, he did so as a favour to his top player.

Ouellette is in his final year of eligibility in the CJHL and he wanted to play the rest of the season with his best friend Jacob Laliberte in the seaway city.

But Ouellette has a strange way of returning favours. The first time the two teams met after the trade, Ouellette tallied four points including a hat trick and was named the game's first star.

On Sunday, he returned to the Navan Arena for the first time, eager to show Grads fans what they're missing.

Although the result was not quite as spectacular as the first time he played his former team, he still managed to get four points including a third period power play goal and was once again named the game's first star.

His best friend and linemate also had a big game. Laliberte scored his 50th and 51st goals of the season and drew an assist on Oullette's power play goal.

As for the hometown Grads, they gave the Colts all they could handle. The game was scoreless after the first period, and after a terrific goal by Kale Wild at the 2:52 mark of the third, they only trailed by a goal down 3-2.

If not for several close calls and missed opportunities they could have easily led by a goal.

As it was, Ty Perry's insurance marker at the 8:52 mark of the third period put the game out of reach for the Grads and Ouellette's power goal slammed the door.

Cumberland will be hoping to build on the energy they showed in the opening stages of the third period, when they take on the Gloucester Rangers this afternoon at the Earl Armstrong Arena.

The Rangers are coming off of wins over the Nepean Raiders and the Colts and are hoping to pick up another two points in their battle with the Raiders for fourth place and hoime ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs which get started in three weeks time.

The opening face off iin this afternoon's game is at 4:30 p.m.
