Homan's bid for a World Junior Curling Championship came to a disappointing end
early Sunday morning as Sweden managed to steal three consecutive ends in the
final to win the gold medal. The
game was tied 3-3 after six ends and Canada had last shot advantage when things
started to come completely unraveled. Sweden stole two points in the seventh and
two more in the eighth to take a commanding 7-3 lead in the ninth end. When they
stole another point in the ninth, Canada conceeded the gold medal and were forced
to settle for silver instead.
The
game was a bitter disappointment for the Canadian rink which two days ago completely
overhwelmed the Swedes in the 1-2 playoff game, winning 9-3 in eight ends. In
their only other meeting during the round robin portion of the tournament, the
Canadians won 6-4 in 10 ends. "We
are all bitterly disappointed," said Homan. "We just didn't curl our
game today. We had our chances but failed to take them or missed shots. We were
not playing our style of game." Homan
was the top rated skip heading into the final, curling at a better than 85 per
cent clip. Unfortunately, she picked a bad time to be off her game. (Posted
