After
winning a pair of individual overall titles at the provincial short track speed
skating championships in Orléans last month, the Gloucester Concordes managed
place three skaters in the Top 10 at the national age class championships in Campbellton,
New Brunswick last week. Vincent
Dehaitre led the way in the junior male division, capitalizing on a bronze medal
performance in the 1500 metres and a pair of wins in the B-final of the 500 and
1,000 events to finish sixth overall. It was a major improvement on his sixth
place performance of a year ago. In
the junior female division, Ontario champion Hannah Morrison finished a somewhat
disappointing 10th overall, but her teammate Emily Rendell-Watson, who placed
second behind Morrison at the provincials, managed to finish in 8th place, thanks
largely to her first place finish in the B-final of the 1,500 metres. The
third Gloucester Concordes skater in the junior female division, Gabrielle St-Germain,
placed 12th. The
three girls did manage to come back from New Brunswick with a medal, however,
thanks to their second place performance in the junior/intermediate female relay
which they competed in with Hannahs sister Samantha, who placed eighth in
the intermediate female division, and their cousin Keri Morrison who won the intermediate
female overall gold medal. The
older Morrison, who hails from Cambridge, has been training with the Concordes
all winter while she goes to the University of Ottawa. (This
story was made possible thanks to the generous support of our local
