Jenny
Allen and Jillian Taylor have been teammates for most of their fastpitch careers,
but at the recent Canadian Senior Womens' Fastpitch Championships in Kitchener
they were in opposite dugouts trying to help their respective adopted teams win
gold. The
two Orleans Rebels teammates were selected to augment the rosters of the Kitchener
Coyotes and the Pickering Heat after the Reels failed to qualify at the provincial
championships earlier this month. Allen was picked up by the Heat, while Taylor
was invited to play with the Coyotes. The
two women factored into the success of their "new" teams in making it
into the medal round. Allen had an excellent on-base percentage and came through
with a clutch 2-run double in the eighth inning of a must win game that got them
into the medal contention, while Taylor helped propel the Coyotes into first place
in the round robin portion of the tournament with a win and a save. Teammates
for the past 15 years, the two women eventually came face to face in the 7th inning
of the semi-finals. Taylor was brought in to try and keep the game close and she
managed to strike Allen out to end the inning. Kitchener,
however, failed to come with any runs in their half of the inning, giving Pickering
the win and a spot in the gold medal game against the White Rock Renegades which
the B.C. team won 2-0. (This
story was made possible thanks to the generous support of our local
