B. continues winning ways against St. Peter Knights

The
Lester B. Pearson junior boys basketball team has picked
up where they left off prior to the holiday break, downing
the St. Peter Knights 68-51 on Thursday for their second
win in a row since the New Year and sixth in a row this
season.
After
posting a perfect 4-0 record in the pre-season, the Panrthers
are 2-0 in 2013 with wins over the St. Matthew Tigers
and now the St. Peter Knights.
The
key to the Panthers victory over the Knights was an explosive
first quarter in which they outscored their opponents
22-6.
With
the Knights putting up very little in the way of defence,
the Panthers managed to pour in another 20 points in the
second quarter to take a 42-19 lead at the half;
After
a lacklustre third quarter in which the Knights managed
to reduce the deficit to 16 points, the Panthers scored
17 in the fourth to win going away.
Devian
McDonald scored a game high 19 points for Lester B. Luis
Puenta added 14 points, Muhammed Kabeya scored 13 and
Jordan Corcoran added another 12 points.
The
top scorer for the Knights was Daymon Williams with 17
points. Alex Dipenta had 14 for the home team including
a trio of three point baskets in the second quarter.
With
the win the Panthers are managing to keep pace with the
Louis Riel Rebelles in the East Division. Both teams have
an identical 2-0 record with four games remaining. Due
to a quirk in the schedule in which they won't play each
other before the playoffs they could both end up 6-0,
although the Panthers did beat the Rebelles in their final
pre-season game on Dec. 14.
The
Panthers play St. Patrick's next followed by De La Salle,
Beatrice-Desloges and Lisgar.
As
far as the knights are concerned, they'll be looking to
bounce back against Lisgar next Monday.
