Orleans
native Rachel Homan is rolling along at the Scotties Tournament
of Hearts in Kingston, winning both of her games on Sunday
to improve her rink's record to 3-0.
Homan,
third
Emma Miskew, second Alison Kreviazuk and lead Lisa Weagle,
started the day with a 9-5 win over Alberta.
Homan
made excellent use of the hammer, scoring three points
in ends three and five and two more in the seventh to
win in nine ends.
After
a short break the foursome came back for the afternoon
draw and overpowered the Northwest Territories/Yukon 9-5.
Homan
scored a deuce in the first end, and then stole two points
in the second end and another in the third to take a commanding
5-0 lead. After holding Northwest Territories skip Kerry
Galusha to single points the rest of the way, Homan slammed
the door on her opponent with three big points in the
eighth end, forcing them to concede.
Were
learning the ice, and were taking it one game at
a time, said Homan. Were making a few
mistakes and were learning from them. My teammates
are playing well and were supporting each other.
Were just having fun out there, especially with
the crowd.
The
Ontario team is making its second appearance at the Scotties
after making it to the semi-finals in 2011, and they are
clearly enjoying playing in their home province in front
of a pro-Ontario crowd.
Its
so much fun, said Homan when asked about playing
as the home team. Its pretty cool.
So much support, and everyones amazing in the arena.
The
Homan rink takes on former Scotties champion Kelly Scott
from B.C. in the afternoon draw followed by New Brrunswick
this evening.
