Orléans
native and Cairine Wilson grad Rachel Homan delivered
under pressure on Friday making a picture perfect draw
to the button in the 10th end to knock off Team Canada
and finish in second place heading into the Page playoffs.
Homan
got a little help from sweepers Lisa Weagle and Alison
Kreviazuk, while third Emma Miskew called the line as
the final stone of the game cames to rest on the edge
of the button beating out Nedohin's previous stone by
mere inches.
The
seesaw game came down to Homan having the last rock advantage
in the extra end..
Homan
opened the game by blanking the first end, she then scored
two in the second an stole a point in the third to take
the early 3-0 lead.
Nedohin
responded with a deuce in both the fourth and sixth ends
providing bookends for Homan's single in the fifth.
With
the game tied 4-4, Homan blanked the seventh end and then
had to settle for a single point in the eighth which gave
Nedohin the opportunity to score two in the ninth end
for the win.
Instead
the Alberta skip could only manage to tie the game giving
the Homan foursome the opportunity to win the game and
set up a rematch with former four-time Scotties champion
Jennifer Jones from Manitoba in the 1-vs-2 Page playoff
game later today.
Jones
finished the round robin portion of the tournament with
a 10-0 record, while Homan ended up 9-1 with her only
loss being to Jones on Thursday.
The
winner of the 1-vs-2 game will go directly to Sunday's
final while the loser will get a second chance to make
the final game by taking on the winner of the 3-vs-4 page
playoff in the semi-final Sunday morning, which means,
of course, that Homan an Jones could end up playing each
other a third time.
The
1-vs-2 playoff game will be broadcast on TSN at 7 p.m.
