Orléan's
skip Rachel Homan and her team of Emma Miskew, Alison
Kreviazuk and Lisa Weagle have clinched a spot in Friday's
3 vs 4 Page playoff game at the World Curling Championships
in Latvia after beating China early Thursday morning.
The
Canadian foursome needed a big 10th end to knock off the
former world champions from China who had just taken a
4-3 lead with a deuce in the ninth.
The
two teams exchanged points with the hammer in the first
two ends and then Homan managed to steal a point in the
third. After Chna tied the game in the fourth, Canada
blanked the fifth and sixth ends before they were forced
to take a point in the seventh
With
Canada leading 3-2, China blanked the eighth end and then
counted two big points in the ninth setting up the big
final end.
A
couple of missed shots was all the Canadian foursome needed
as Homan took advantage of the chance to post a big number
with a pair of well placed shots. The result was four
counters and the win, allowing them to take over
sole possession of third place as Russia fell to Scotland
dropping them to fourth.
The
only team with a chance of moving Canada into fourth place
is the U.S., but the Americans would have to win both
of their remaining games and Canada would have to lose
their lone remaining round
robin game against Japan. That seems highly unlikely seeing
that the Americans final two games are against Scotland
and Russia.
The
Canada Vs Japan game will be televised on TSN at 8:30
a.m.
