In one of the most competitive games at this year's Scottties Tournament of Hearts so far, Orléans skip and defending champion Rachel Homan knocked off Saskatchewan's Stefanie Lawton to remain at the top of the standings.

The game came down to Lawton's last shot in the 10th end which came up short against two markers, allowing Homan, third Emma Miskew, second Alison Kreviazuk and lead Lisa Weagle to walk off the ice with an 8-6 win.

Team Homan fell behind early, allowing Saskatchewan to score three points in the second end.

After Homan and company managed to bounce back with a deuce in the third, the two teams exchanged single points in the fourth, fifth and sixth ends.

Trailing 5-3, Homan used last rock advantage in the seventh end to score another deuce and tie the score. They then took control of the game with a steal of one in the eighth end and forced Saskatchewan to settle for a point in the ninth, leaving the score tied 6-6 in the pivotal 10th end.

With skips' rocks to go, Homan had a rock buried at the top of four foot behind two Saskatchewan markers at the top of the 12. After taking a timeout to get some advice from coach Earle Morris, Homan elected to throw a draw and put a second rock behind cover leaving Lawton having to attempt a difficult raise which ended up off line.

With the win, Team Homan remains unbeaten at 9-0 with two games left to go. Their next game is against Newfoundland (4-6) tonight and they'll wrap up round robin action against New Brunswick tomorrow. A win against either team would give them first place and the hammer heading into the 1-2 playoff game.
