Homan comes out on top in showdown with Saskatchewan

Team Homan posted an 8-6 win in an entertaining
game against Saskatchewan this afternoon to
improve their record to a tournament best

one of the most competitive games at this year's Scottties
Tournament of Hearts so far, Orléans skip and defending
champion Rachel Homan knocked off Saskatchewan's Stefanie
Lawton to remain at the top of the standings.
game came down to Lawton's last shot in the 10th end which
came up short against two markers, allowing Homan, third
Emma Miskew, second Alison Kreviazuk and lead Lisa Weagle
to walk off the ice with an 8-6 win.
Homan fell behind early, allowing Saskatchewan to score
three points in the second end.
Homan and company managed to bounce back with a deuce
in the third, the two teams exchanged single points in
the fourth, fifth and sixth ends.
5-3, Homan used last rock advantage in the seventh end
to score another deuce and tie the score. They then took
control of the game with a steal of one in the eighth
end and forced Saskatchewan to settle for a point in the
ninth, leaving the score tied 6-6 in the pivotal 10th
skips' rocks to go, Homan had a rock buried at the top
of four foot behind two Saskatchewan markers at the top
of the 12. After taking a timeout to get some advice from
coach Earle Morris, Homan elected to throw a draw and
put a second rock behind cover leaving Lawton having to
attempt a difficult raise which ended up off line.
the win, Team Homan remains unbeaten at 9-0 with two games
left to go. Their next game is against Newfoundland (4-6)
tonight and they'll wrap up round robin action against
New Brunswick tomorrow. A win against either team would
give them first place and the hammer heading into the
1-2 playoff game.
