The dynasty that is les Titans volleyball is stronger than ever as evident by the fact that Gisèle-Lalonde won their third straight senior girls 'AA' high school championship on Thursday and fourth in the past five years.

The Titans had to overcome an uncharacteristic slow start aganst the Samuel Genest Lazors, in which they fell behind 0-7 in the first set, to win three sets to one and cap another perfect season in which they only lost four sets in 11 matches.

After dropping the first two sets 27-25, 25-12, a gutsy Samuel Genest side managed to grind out a 25-19 win in the third set, but they were unable to avoid the inevitable as Gisèle-Lalonde took the fifth and deciding set 25-17 with Olivia Whitteveen serving up an ace on match point.

When she wasn't serving to win the match, Whitteveen was setting the ball to teammates Sabrina Roy, Élyse Patry and Émie Gaboury who had seven kills between them in the fourth set alone.

With the win the Titans will be gunning for their fourth straight OFSAA 'AA' provincial championship in Thunder Bay next week, a string that goes back to 2010 when the championship was held in Ottawa and the National Capital Secondary Sschool Athletic Association was able to enter two teams as the hosts.

This will be Roy's fourth trip to the OFSAA 'AA' championship. She is hoping to make history by becoming the first female high school volleyball player to win four provincial ;AA' championships in a row.

"My goal is to end my high school career with a win. Four in a row would be nice," said the team captain.

Head coach Marcel Martin says the Titans has all the pieces necessary to defend their provincial crown.

"Olivia is a tremendous setter, We have two powerful hitters in Sabrina and Émie and we're strong defensively. We're also extremely fast and we have players with great court vision," says Martin. "If we remember to have fun and play well we have a chance."
