Still riding high from her Olympic experience in Sochi, Orléans speed skater Ivanie Blondin posted her best result of the season in Inzell, Germany on Saturday, placing 12th in the women's 3,000 metres.

Skating in the first of eight pairings, Blondin completed the distance in 4:11.91. She then watched as the rest of the field took their turn. The 23-year-old Garneau high school grad, remained in the top 10 until the final pair when she was pushed to 12th.

Despite not making the top 10, Blondin should be extremely pleased with her result after a disappointing start to the World Cup season in which she was relegated to the B Division in three of four events.

In the final World Cup event prior to the Olympics, Blondin skated the 3rd fastest time in the B Division and 13th fastest time overall in Berlin.

She would go on to place 24th in the 3,000-metres and 14th in the 5,000-metres competing in her first Winter Olympics.

Blondin has one more World Cup event on the calendar in Heerenveen, Netherlands next week followed by the World All-Round Championships at the same location the week after.

Before leaving Inzell Blondin must still compete in her specialty, the mass start, in which she has an outside shot to win a medal.
