Canadiens overpower Jr. 67s in OHL Cup semi-final
By Fred Sherwin
Ottawa Jr. 67s minor midget AAA quest for the Ottawa and
District Minor Hockey Association's first OHL Cup ended
in disappointment Saturday night thanks to an 8-0 blowout
courtesy of the Toronto Jr. Canadiens.
Jr. 67s went into the game having doubled up the Vaughan
Kings in their afternoon quarterfinal. Their conidence
was further buoyrd by the fact they gave the Jr. Canadiens
all they could handle in a 3-2 loss to the Toronto-area
team in the round robin portion of the tournament.
confidence was quickly put to the test, however, when
the Jr. Canadiens came out flying at the start of the
first period and scored a goal at the 29 second mark.
They added an even strength goal less than four minutes
later and then added a power play goal and a short-handed
marker less than two minutes apart with the game not yet
10 minutes old.
Jr. 67s tried to battle back in the secon period, but
their hard work didn't bare any fruit. After the Jr. Canadiens
scored another goal at the 2:30 mark of the third, the
writing was clearly on the wall.
Jr. Canadiens would add three more for good measure before
the final buzzer ended Jr 67's season.
Gloucester Ranger laden team finished first in the Ontario
East Minor Hockey standings, but were defeated by the
second place Ottawa Valley Titans in the final round of
the OEMHL playoffs.
