In
their first game back since the holiday break, the St.
Matthew Tigers looked in mid-season form on Monday as
they easily beat the previously unbeaten Immaculata Saints
to keep their undefeated record intact.
After
a lacklustre first quarter in which the two teams combined
for just 15 points, the Tigers outscored the Saints 20-9
in the second quarter to take a 26-18 lead at the half.
The Tigers would extend their lead to 13 in the third
quarter and wound u winning by 15 by the time the final
buzzer sounded.
The
difference in the game was preparation while the diffference
in the score game down to foul shoots, especially in the
second half when the Tigers put on a clinic, going a perfect
7-for-7 from the free throw line compared to the Saints
who were a dismal 1-for-13.
Brothers
Shandon and Quinton Ashitei did most of the danage for
the Tigers, combining for 33 of the team's 52 points.
Shandon led all scorers with 20 points, while Quinton
added 13, including a pair of three-point shots.
Caleb
Dagenais added nine points for the Tigers and Josh McGrath
contributed eight
With
the win, the Tigers improved their record to 4-0 and are
within striking distance of the Ashbury Colts who are
undefeated in six games. St. Matt's will make one of those
games up when they play the Notre Dame Eagles on Thursday.
