Ontario Scotties Tournament
Team Homan improves to 7-0, clinches top playoff spot
By Fred Sherwin
Orléans Online

With two draws left to play in the round robin portion of the Ontario Scotties, Orléans skip Rachel Homan has already clinched first place thanks to two more wins on Thursday.

Homan posted a 9-1 win over Allison Flaxey from Guelph in yesterday's afternoon draw, and then downed Cathy Auld from Port Perry 8-4 in the evening to extend her unbeaten record at the provincial championship to 7-0.

With two round robin games remaining against defending champion Julie Hastings and five-time champion Sherry Middaugh, Homan has already clinched last rock advantage in the 1-2 Page playoff game on Saturday..

Homan captured back-to-back national Scotties championships in 2013 and 2014 to earn the Team Canada auto-berths, but a bronze-medal finish last year meant a return to provincials this season..

While Team Homan has clinched first place, there's a log jam behind them with four teams tied at 4-3, and two teams at 3-4.
