Rachel Homan advances to Ontario Scotties final
By Fred Sherwin
Orléans Online

Orléans skip Rachel Homan is one win away from a return trip to the Canadian Scotties Tournament of Hearts after winning the 1-2 Page playoff at the provincial championships in Brampton this afternoon.

Homan and her rink of Emma Miskew, Joanne Carruthers and Lisa Weagle made short work of Jacqueline Harrison's Mississauga rink, scoring three points in each of the second and fourth ends and a deuce in the eighth on their way to a convincing 9-5 win.

Harrison managed to get on the board first with a steal in the opening end, but the Homan foursome stormed back to score hree in the second.

After forcing Harrison to count one in the third, Homan made a difficult run back double takeout to score four big points in the fourth to take a commanding 7-2 lead. They would have to take one of those points off the board when Miskew realized she touched, or "burned", one of the rocks.

Homan forced Harrison to count another single in the fifth end and then blanked the sixth and seventh ends before scoring a deuce with the hammer in the eighth to stretch their lead to 8-4.

Harrison had to settle for another single in the ninth, leaving Team Homan to clinch the 9-5 win with a point in the 10th..

Homan, Miskew, Carruthers and Weagle must now await the outcome of Sunday morning's semi-final between Harrison and Ottawa's Jen Hanna to see who they will play in the final which will be broadcast on Sportsnet starting at 2 p.m..
