Lady Knights settle for bronze at OFSAA AAA tournament

The St. Peter Knights varsity girls rugby team ended their season by winning the bronze medal at the OFSAA provincial AAA championships at Twin Elm Park on Wednesday.

The Knights got a pair of tries from Emma Crivello and singles from Madison Doyle and Katie Rea, who also kicked a pair of converts, to beat St. Roch Catholic High School from Brampton, 26-19.

It's the third medal in as many years for the National Capital champions, who have been to the provincial high school championships in each of the past four years.

The Knights had to settle for the consolation medal in 2014 after a second round loss relegated them to the bottom bracket. And then last year, they were awarded the silver medal after making it all the way to the final where they lost to the Oakville Trafalgar Red Devils who repeated as champions in Wednesday's gold medal game..

The bronze medal game marked the end of the high school careers for graduating co-captains Rachel McCallan and Taylor Donato who were members of all four city championship teams.

But the tournament was a coming out party for Grade 9 additions like Katie Rae, Emily Lacombe who have a shot at repeating the accomplishments of McCallan and Donato as they take up the torch.
