Joseph Henri Banville lived a full and happy life and
was a true inspiration to those who knew him. He was born
on February 11th, 1928 in Montreal to Elizabeth (née

(Roberto Santamaria), grandfather of 12, mentor, teacher

Grandpapa
or GP, as he was known to his family, was
a humble man with a quick sense of humor and an insatiable
curiosity about the world around him which he loved to
share. Early in life, this led to a degree in Arts, another
in Chemistry and a Masters degree in Aeronautical Engineering.
René had a career in the Canadian Air Force during
which time he contributed to the Avro Arrow project and
served on various bases including AFCENT in Europe and
was commander of CFB La Macaza from 1968 to 1971.
GP
had a profound love of nature and thrived on nurturing
a large tree farm in the Laurentians. He would welcome
family and friends and share his wood lore knowledge allowing
them to learn and be closer to nature. He had an unwavering
commitment to family and was very happy to be able to
leave this tree farm as a legacy.
