Percival Henry Matthews of Navan, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2016 at the age of 66. Beloved husband of the late Lyse (nee Lafrance). Loving brother of Margaret (Reg MacNeill), Cindy (Ricky Kraus), Pryscilla (Brian Bourgeois), Allan (Diane Lesway), Ivan (Kathy Anderson) and Doreen (Richard Lambert). Robert Roussy

On July 14, 2016, at the age of 60, Robert Roussy, husband of Helene Roussy (Madore) passed away peacefully at home. He is survived by his children Roxanne Roussy (Andre Lauzon) and Raymond Roussy (Adrienne Pamela Rogers). He will be missed but still loved by all who knew him. The family will receive relatives and friends at Heritage Funeral Complex, 1250 Trim Rd., Orléans, on Friday, July 22 , 2016, from 1 to 3 p.m.. Sr Anne-Marie Foucault (Sœur Léopold-Marie de l’Immaculée) de la Congrégation des Filles de la Sagesse est décédée à Ottawa le mardi 12 juillet 2016, à l’âge de 92 ans, dont 58 ans de vie consacrée au Christ-Sagesse. Elle était la fille de feu Léopold Foucault et Florida Brisebois. Outre ses consoeurs Filles de la Sagesse, elle laisse dans le deuil sa sœur Gabrielle Foucault, sa belle-sœur Mary E. Anka Krpan
(née Pejakavic)

Passed away peacefully on July 11th, early in her 89th year of life. Anka is survived by two daughters, Maria and Milanka, and many grand and great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her son Johnny. Anka was born in Croatia and immigrated to Canada in 1956. She worked hard to raise her children and give them a chance to enjoy the benefits of being Canadian. It is with great sadness that the Gibeault family announces the passing of Armand Gibeault on Monday June 20th, 2016 at the age of 88. Gisèle Lalonde
(née Poirier)

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our wonderful wife and mother, originally from Cornwall, on June 15, 2016 at the age of 77 years, surrounded by family. Beloved wife of Royal Lalonde and loving mother of Rick (Tanya), Diane (Bear) and Marc (Sophie). A grandmother to eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was the sister of Marcel (Lisette), Mariette (Richard) and the late Gaëtane. Gisèle was predeceased by her parents, Gilbert Poirier and Léa Ménard. Yvon Lavalée

Suddenly but peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, Yvon Lavallée died on June 12th, 2016, at the age of 82, at the Ottawa Heart Institute. Still active as a construction entrepreneur, an avid hunter and fisherman, Yvon was known for living life to the fullest with humour and tenacity. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Jacqueline (Jackie) Miron; his children Michel (Sylvie Denis), Lyne (Gerry Taylor), and Luc (Tara Sturrup); four grandchildren Julie (Levi), Mylène (Phil), Philippe, and Shanna; two great-granddaughters Jessie and Lexie; his sisters Rolande (Upchan), Thérèse (Lécuyer), and Lorraine (Delaney); his sisters in-law Denise, Rita, and Lucille Lavallée; Gaby, Micheline, Carole and Carmen Miron, Lise (Michel Sabourin) and brother-in-law Guy Miron (Colombe); as well as numerous nephews, nieces, and friends. Martin James McKenna

Passed away peacefully 12 June 2016 at the Perley and Rideau Veterans’ Health Centre at the age of 98. Martin was born 30 January 1918 at Mackey Station, Ontario, the son of Rose Furlong and William McKenna. After service with the Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserve during WW II, Martin returned to North Bay, Ontario, to continue his career in the diamond drilling industry, eventually managing a very successful company. A long-time resident of North Bay, Martin later lived in Toronto, Fergus and finally Orleans. He also enjoyed many wonderful summers at the family cottage on the south shore of Lake Nipissing, and relaxing winters at Hobe Sound, Florida. Predeceased by his wife Margaret in 2011, Martin will be remembered fondly by his daughter Sharon (Andrew Leach) of Meaford, ON, his son Stephen (Susanne Kuta) of Orleans, his grandchildren Megan Leach (Stephen Christian), Toronto, Kara (McKenna) Taylor (Ian), Orleans, and Sean McKenna (Leslie Vossler), Blairmore, AB, and his two lovely great-granddaughters, Danielle and Emily Taylor. Mary Ellen Bowdridge
(neé Larkham)

It is with great sadness that the family announce the passing of our beloved mother Mary Ellen Bowdridge who passed away on Friday June 10th, 2016 at Montfort Hospital in Ottawa in her 72nd year. Mary was born in Victoria, Newfoundland, and raised on the island of Cape Breton. Growing up in Glace Bay Mary was often referred to as
“Nellie”. Mary is survived by her daughters Kimberley (Vasco), Michele (Eddie), Tammy (Yvon), Son John, Special Grandchildren Stephen, Mathieu, Kevin, Alexander, and the only Princes Lyndsie. Mary is survived by her brother Wallace, sister Velma, predeceased by her sister Rita. Predeceased by her parents Sarah Jane Larkham (2002) and William Larkham (1953). Read more

Art Heikkila

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Art Heikkila at the young age of 51, following a courageous 21 month battle with brain cancer. Art leaves behind his wife Sonja (nee Wischniwsky) and his daughter Stephanie and her husband Andrew Jackson and his son Roman and his wife Katie. He will be sadly missed by his extended family – parents Marion and Ron of Haileybury, and siblings Gail, Randy, Lenny, Peggy, Greg and Tracy and their families, and his sister-in-law Heidi Wischniwsky. A special thanks to Greg and Lynn Heikkila and their sons Kai and Tanner, who provided so much joy and support throughout his lengthy battle. From Orléans, originally from Smooth Rock Falls Ontario, passed away at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute on Friday May 6 2016, at the age of 87. She was the wife of the late Edmond Duguay. John McWatt

JOHN ERNEST McWATT, born on November 19th, 1922 in Guyana SA, passed away peacefully on May 5th, 2016 at the Ottawa General Hospital. He was the Beloved Husband of the late Grace E. McWatt (nee Overton), Father of Joan Prashad (Shad) of Ottawa, and J. Bruce McWatt (Rhona) of Dunbar Scotland, Grandfather of Leah Nelson (Andrew) of Bozeman Montana, J. Darren Prashad and Karina Prashad of Ottawa, Gina Black (Jim) of Edinburgh Scotland, Natalie McWatt of London UK. Great Grandfather of Imogen and Sadie Black and Jacob Nelson. He was also the Beloved brother of Irma Belmonte, Ethne Carto, Thora Gordyk, Sheilah Stuart-Young, Thelma Beattie and Olga Cole, who all predeceased him. John was a proud member of the British Army South Caribbean Forces for 9.5 years retiring with the rank of Lieutenant, and served in WW2. Read more

(née Wright)

Deborah E. Canham (nee Wright) dimmed the lights in her classroom for the last time on 29 April, 2016. Her gift to the world was the ability to reach children, to soothe their worries and to impart the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed. She was exceedingly patient, compassionate and intelligent.Born in Charlottetown, PEI in 1960, she grew up interested in business but ultimately developed the skills of a nurturer, caring for her three younger sisters. Her summers were spent on the red shores of Northumberland Straight while winters were spent cross-country skiing which became a lifelong passion. Read more

Passed peacefully in her bed on Thursday, April 7, 2016. She will be greatly missed by her daughter Linda and son-in-law Rico. She was a loving grandmother to Jason (Kiren) and Samantha (Luke) and great-grandmother to Max, Siena and Madeline. Joan spent her early years in Algonquin Park canoeing and enjoying the outdoors. She moved to Ottawa and was very proud to serve her country as a navy plotter during the Second World War. She spent most of her adult life in Toronto and returned to Ottawa to enjoy her senior years with friends and family. She loved painting, writing poetry, playing cards, knitting and was an avid reader. She had a wonderful sense of humour and always enjoyed a good laugh. She will be forever in our hearts. Anatole (Toly) Kornachuk was beloved father to five children: John (Dana), Deborah (Richard), Hope (Brian), Stephen (Carole), and Philip (Tana). He had eleven grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his precious Ruth (nee Duchesneau), and is survived by brothers Walter and Edward Kornachuk. Born in Lachine, Quebec of new immigrants Paul and Sofia (Zukowska) Kornachuk, Toly earned a B.Eng. from McGill University. After several years in civil engineering (including as Supervising Engineer of Ogdensburg International Bridge), he earned a Bachelor of Divinity. As a pastor and beyond, Toly cared deeply for and helped many people, and he loved to share how a relationship with God is possible through Jesus Christ. Read more

Gabriel Mihalache-Mwadi

Our beloved 7 year old, Gabriel, entered Heaven on March 15th, 2016. He passed away surrounded by family and friends after a brave and courageous 16 month battle with an inoperable form of pediatric brain cancer. People would always say he was a special boy, a wise man in a young body, a crystal child. He loved to express himself through music and dance. John "Scotty" Mains

John “Scotty” Mains passed away peacefully on the morning of January 20, 2016 in his home with a heart full of love and surrounded by his family who adored him. Scotty was born in Larkhall,Scotland to parents John and Elizabeth, where he grew up with his brother Bill. He then emigrated to Canada at the age of 18 where he went on to serve with the Canadian Air Force. Following his time in the military, Scotty began a long, passionate career in teaching where he taught electronics in many locations around the world including Canada, the United States and the Middle East. An avid golfer, Scotty loved warm weather, a nice glass of wine and good company. With a terrific sense of humor, he was quick to smile and always available to lend a helping hand. Read more

Robert Michael Zacharko, 63, of Ottawa, Ontario, passed away on Monday, January 4, 2016 following a long illness.Bob was born April 13, 1952 in Montréal, Quebec to Nicolas and Olga Zacharko (nee Wishnoska). He finished his secondary studies at Cardinal Newman High School and went on to complete his undergraduate degree at Concordia University in Montreal. Post-graduate studies followed at University of Saskatoon where he received his doctorate specializing in the study of neuroscience. David Nutty

Born in Dublin, Ireland, David’s love for travel and adventure began with the Royal Air Force in Bahrain and Cyprus. After coming to Canada, he worked at the TSE and Foreign Affairs with postings in New York, Paris, London, Brussels, New Delhi and Warsaw. David Nutty passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on January 2nd, 2016, after a courageous battle with cancer. Michael Joseph Dominic Heney

Michael passed away suddenly and peacefully in his home on September 16, 2015 at the age of 63. Dearly loved by his children Kate and Mike and his wife Donna. Predeceased by his father Michael J. Heney and survived by his loving mother Mary. Beloved brother of Peter (Cher), Kevin (Cecile), Paul, and Marianne (Walter). Loving uncle to many nieces and nephews: Ryan, Kyle and MJ; Chelsea and Trista; Alex and Alanna; Kendra; Jonathan and Danielle; Braeden; and Connor, Brandon, and Taylor. Michael will be greatly missed by his extended family and the entire St. Peter Catholic High School family, where he has been a fixture as a teacher and coach since the school's opening in 1992. Royal “ Jos” Tourangeau passed away peacefully on August 27, 2015 at the age of 73, after a long battle against cancer. Son of late Jean Tourangeau and late Félicité St-Onge. Many will remember a business man who actively contributed to the growth of the Orléans community but even more as a loving husband, an inspiring father, a welcoming father-in-law, an affectionate grandfather and proud great-grandfather. He guided us through life until the very end. Beloved husband of 54 years to Yolande Bergeron, loving father of Marcelle (Jean-Yves Bélec), André (Jacinthe Schnupp) and Elaine (Luc Taillefer). He was the cherished grandfather of Michelle Bélec (Scott Varin), Mylaine Bélec, Patrick Taillefer (Karine Brisebois), Joël Taillefer, Pascale Taillefer (Patrick Leduc), Cindy Tourangeau, Benoît Tourangeau and Patrick Longtin (Diana) and great-grandfather of Lyvia, Mikaël, Xavier, William, Adèle and Tristan. Suzanne "Suzie" Richard
(née Richard)

Suzie passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, August 16 at the May Court Hospice after celebrating her 60th birthday with her friends and family earlier in the day. She was loved, adored, and cherished by her husband, Jerry Carell and their two children, Ryan and Brendan Carell. Suzie will be sadly missed by her mother Grace; her sister Lise and daughter Melissa; her brother Paul and his wife and children Lise, Jean-François, Eric; and her brother Jean and his wife and children Francine, Francois, Louis. Jerry’s sister Elaine, his brothers Bob and Pete and their spouses and families all meant so much to Suzie, especially during her courageous battle with cancer over the past year and a half. Lois Kemp
(née Spratt)

Peacefully and surrounded by family, at home on July 16th, 2015 at the age of 85. Predeceased by her husband, Eldon Kemp, son Gordon and great granddaughter Gwenevere. She will be missed by her children, daughters-in-law and son-in-law, Susan (Crosby), Evelyn and Don (Budd), Murray and Judy (Brewer), Kevin and Camille (Scully), Diane, Randy and Judy (Boys) and David. Her 22 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren were her pride and joy. She will also be missed by her sister, Lee (deceased Tom McVeigh and Larry Sharpe) and brother-in-law Jim Sunderland, sisters-in-law Ariel Hancock (deceased Alexander), Joyce Whyte (deceased Milton), Grace (deceased Morris), Marion (deceased Ken) and stepsister Lois Long. Lois has also been predeceased by her parents Jim and Ella Spratt, sisters Ruth (Sunderland), Marion and Harold Dillon, Winston and Irene (Hepburn), Wesley and Pauline (Hepburn).

Lois was a very active volunteer in the community as a founder of many Blackburn institutions, including the Banar, Fun Fair, and Girl Guides. She was also a Sunday School teacher and school trustee. Lois became the first woman to be inducted on the Ottawa-Gloucester Sports Club’s “Wall of Fame” for her contribution in bringing the sport of ringette to Gloucester. Her passions included coaching and playing ringette, the Gloucester Historical Society and her beautiful flower gardens around her home. She was very proud of her 16 years of publishing “The Gloucester Leader” and the book "Gloucester Roots”.

Lois inspired others to live life to the fullest. She will be missed by her family and many friends.

Friends and family are invited to visit at the St. Laurent Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 1200 Ogilvie Road (at Aviation Parkway) Monday, July 20th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held Tuesday July 21st at Rothwell United Church (42 Sumac Street) at 11a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Canadian Diabetes Association.

Alexander Gordon Carrington Smith

"Gord" left us peacefully after a well-fought battle with brain cancer. He was the beloved husband of Wendy (nee Kaizer), and loving and devoted father to Tyler and Sydney. Special son-in-law of Ray and Nancy Kaizer of Ottawa, and brother-in-law of Jeff Kaizer (Lisa) of Orlando. Calver, Dr. Jerry

Passed away after a lengthy illness surrounded by his family on Tuesday June 11, 2013 at the age of 65 years. He will be dearly missed by his loving wife Sheila, his cherished children Trina Calver (Scott Hendry) and Daryl (Jennifer). Proud grampa of Nora, Rowan, Peyton and Dawson. He is predeceased by his first wife Brenda Cochrane and his father Gerald Sr. Calver. Jerry was a gregarious, fun loving man, treasured by many. His community was important to him; he was a life member of the Navan Lions Club and founding member/President of the Navan Curling Club. Besides his commitment to Navan village, he was passionate about his scientific work at Health Canada in Biologics as well as his teaching at Ottawa University.
