Passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at the age of 77 years. Son of the late Wilfrid Rancourt and of the late Juliette Talbot. Beloved husband of Jeanne (née Rousson). Loving father of France (Riad Rihane) and André (Josée Loranger). Cherished grandfather of Simon (Josée Leach), Maxime (Katie Ross), Danyka, Na?la and great-grandfather of Shane, Liam and Jackson. He will be sadly missed by his daughter-in-law Stéphanie Bertrand, his siblings Paul-Henri, Antonio, Denise, Louisette, Bertrand, Francine, Odette, Doris, Yves, Alain, Normand and Réjean, his sisters-in-law Gabrielle Robert and Albertine Ebenhoech, as well as many nephews, nieces and friends. Elizabeth Adams

Left us peacefully after a short illness complicating her long time chronic problems. She passed away at the Ottawa Hospital General Campus, on Saturday, November 26, 2016. She leaves her husband Dr. Barrett (Barry) Adams, a devoted, constant companion of 57 years and her children and grandchildren, her pride and joy, Elizabeth (Marc Paquette), Brian (Cindy), Carolyn (Nao Tateschi), Jennifer (Brad Arndt), Robert (Karen), Jeffrey (Trudy), Stephanie (Darren MacEachern) as well as 18 grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. Predeceased by her mother Etta Brooks. The family will miss her fantastic cooking and her presents of hand made with love clothing, knitted sweaters, hats and mitts. Read more

Passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at the age of 65. Beloved husband of Carole (nee Gravelle). Son of the late Polydore (Paul) Sarault and Hélène Gravelle. Peacefully, after a courageous battle, and shortly after the passing of his beloved wife Louise (nee Bureau), on Friday, November 18, 2016 at the age of 83. Graeme Goodlet

On November 13, 2016, Graeme Scott Goodlet left us for his next great adventure after surviving lung cancer for over six years. Graeme is survived by his wife Carole (Gravelle), his daughter Isabelle (Louise, Geneviève and Rosalie), his brother Clyde (Gwenne) and his sister Jeannie (Heather), grandsons Jacob and Nicolas, brother-in-laws Pierre (Lise) and Jacques, sisters-in-law Lise, Lucie (Marc) and France (Greg); nephews Warren (Lindsay), Collin (Lindsay), Marc–André (Jamie), his godson Sébastien, Steven (Shannon), Keith, Christian (Kathleen), Justin (Émilie) and nieces Lisa (Mike), Nathalie (Éric), Andréa, Karine and Amanda. Graeme would also want us to acknowledge the care and attention that he received from many medical personnel that enabled him to live his last years in relative comfort and to spend the last days of his life surrounded by his family, dignity and compassion. Coralie Duchesne
(née Tattersall)

Our beloved Mamá, Coralie, was a citizen of the world. She was born in Calcutta, India from a Welsh father and a British mother who were living in India. Mamá Coralie came with her mother to Stratford On-Avon, England at the age of four. She was educated in boarding schools in the UK. Coralie entered the University of Sorbonne in Paris when she was eighteen. She met our father, Juan Duchesne, while she was at the Sorbonne studying History. Very soon they married and moved to Madrid, Spain. My father Juan went on to finish his medical degree in Spain. They lived in Madrid for around seven years and had three children, Juan Ramón, Moira and Laurent, all born in Madrid. Coralie was an avid reader and soon she was fluent in a third language. Apart from English and French, she learned Spanish. She loved Spain and those years in Spain were very happy years.Read more

Passed away at the Montfort Hospital on Sunday, November 13, 2016 at the age of 84. Beloved husband of the late Rita Jetté (nee Champagne). Loving father of Denis Jetté. He will be sadly missed by his step-sister Françoise Houle, as well as many friends. Passed away peacefully on Monday, November 7th, 2016 at the age of 87. Predeceased by her parents Roy and Ellen Weaver and by her loving husband Donald MacDonald and her sister Francis Lewis. Loving mother of Daniel Munroe (Marilyn), Nancy Evans (David); Cherished grandmother to Danny and Karen Munroe, Amy Evans and great grandmother to Cameron Munroe and aunt to Sandra Hagerman (Fredericton, N.B.) She was the dearest friend of Susan and Rodney Berg, Brian and Linda Delaney who were always there to provide friendship and support and were an important part of Doris’ life. Special thank you to the management and staff at Chapel Hill Retirement Home and especially Dr. Melissa Guindon, Debbie, Caroline, Sheila and Michelle. Thanks also to her end of life care team – Audrey and Joy from At Home Hospice Care and Marilyn from St. Elizabeth Nursing Services who enabled Doris to die comfortably and with dignity at home. Passed away on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at the age of 85. Loving husband of Thérèse Touchette. Beloved son of the late Vital Lacroix and of the late Gracia Leblanc. Loving father of François (Linda V.), André (Linda T.) and Yves. Cherished grandfather of Sofie and Joel (Mireille). He will be sadly missed by his brothers : Rodolphe, Ronald and Aurèle ; his sisters : Rollande, Léona, Pauline and Denise. George Brown

As quietly as he lived his life George Brown peacefully was promoted to Heaven to be with His Saviour on Wednesday morning, November 2nd. George is survived by his wife of 52 years Nancy, his daughter Alison (Dan Savard), his cherished grandchildren Chantal and Shayne, his sisters Elaine, Devena, and his brother Stewart. He is predeceased by his parents Alex and Ellen and sisters June and Myrtle. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Grace Presbyterian Church, the Ottawa Mission, or Hockey Ministries International. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the healthcare staff of the ICU at Ottawa General Hospital. Passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 23, 2016 at the age of 68. Loving husband of Denise Frigon. Loving father of Paul (Sarah) and Kelly. Cherished grandfather of Thomas. Succumbed after a short illness, on October 12, 2016. Loving and devoted wife of Chuck and mother of daughters Karen (Jordan Smith) and Carol (Todd Nowlan). Proud, adoring and doting grammie of Jasmine, Blake, Alex, Olivia and Annie. Barbara was a very successful real estate agent for over forty years. While Barbara was passionate about her career, her heart was always with her family. After a long struggle with Parkinson’s disease, Sarah passed away peacefully in long term care, October 2, 2016. She leaves behind her beloved children, David (Elaine  Splett), Stephanie ( Jean Binet).  Survived also by her greatly loved granddaughter, Emileigh Binet, siblings, Jim, Bill, Ann, Diane, and Debby, numerous nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.  Sarah Beth enjoyed the many years she spent nursing patients in labour.  She also worked as office nurse for Dr. George T. Brent Clary

Passed away August 31st, 2016 knowing his wife Tracey of 22 years, and his children Connor and Liana loved him beyond words. His sister Linda Clary of Thunder Bay survives Brent. Brent was a fun, loving uncle to many nieces and nephews, a brother in-law, a friend and a co-worker. Brent left his hometown of Manitouwadge, ON to attend Carleton University and earned a degree in Economics. He began his career with the City of Ottawa where he worked for 13 years, but for the past 18 years he had the privilege of working for NAV CANADA as the Director of Labour Relations and Human Resources. Passed away after a brief illness, on August 24, 2016 at the age of 80 years.  Olga will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 54 years, Jacques Perron, her brothers Gordon (late Florence) and Hubert (Fernande).  Predeceased by her parents Thélesphore Carrière and Rubina Hall, her brothers William (Gabrielle), Edwin (Rose), Calvin (the late Nicole), her sisters Monique (the late René Labelle), Françoise (the late Henri Labelle), Melba (the late Daniel Soucy); her brother-in-law André Perron (Jeannine). It is with great sorrow that we share the news of the passing of Gail Powers at the age of 77.   A long time resident of Gatineau and recently an extremely happy resident of Orleans.   She will be sorely missed by Franklyn, her loving husband of 58 years, her children, Debbie (Kurt), Wayne, Linda and Connie (Jon), her grandchildren, Jason (Hadja), Nick, Katrina (Mike), Sarah, Jeffery, Jacob and Matthew, her great grandchildren, Malik, Brianna, Jaxon, Aidan and Bryce and her siblings Joan (Roger), Gary (Diane) and Marvin (Phyllis).  She is predeceased by her parents, Lillian (Lafrance) and Francis, her twin brother Glen (Doris) and sister Patricia (Ernie).  Gail was an incredibly loving and fiercely protective mom and wonderful wife. Read more

 


Richard Laplante

Richard Laplante, né en 1943, est décédé le 19 août 2016 entouré de ses proches. La famille directe de Richard était plutôt réduite. Fils ainé de Léonne Gobeil, qui elle-même était fille unique, et de Yves Laplante, son père, qui n’avait qu’une seule sœur bien connue comme ‘tante Huguette’. Elle aura gardée, dans la ville native de Richard, une bonne partie des enfants de Magog, incluant ses propres enfants Nathalie et Charles, nés d’un premier mariage avec Louise Bernier. Charles, tout comme son père, évolue dans le domaine des matériaux de construction. Il laisse aussi dans le deuil sa bru Joyce, sa petite-fille Geneviève et son petit-fils Youri, son frère Michel mari de Pierrette,  sa sœur Louise épouse de John, ainsi que neveux et nièces. Passed away on Thursday, August 18, 2016 at the age of 81. Predeceased by her beloved husband Rémi Villeneuve and her dear son Gilles (Ginette). Loving mother of Lucie (the late Donat Cléroux), Hélëne Bisaillon (Daniel), Alain (Christine), Serge (Lyne), Yves (Sylvie) and Chantal Drouin (François). Martin James McKenna

Passed away peacefully 12 June 2016 at the Perley and Rideau Veterans’ Health Centre at the age of 98. Martin was born 30 January 1918 at Mackey Station, Ontario, the son of Rose Furlong and William McKenna. After service with the Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserve during WW II, Martin returned to North Bay, Ontario, to continue his career in the diamond drilling industry, eventually managing a very successful company. A long-time resident of North Bay, Martin later lived in Toronto, Fergus and finally Orleans. He also enjoyed many wonderful summers at the family cottage on the south shore of Lake Nipissing, and relaxing winters at Hobe Sound, Florida. Predeceased by his wife Margaret in 2011, Martin will be remembered fondly by his daughter Sharon (Andrew Leach) of Meaford, ON, his son Stephen (Susanne Kuta) of Orleans, his grandchildren Megan Leach (Stephen Christian), Toronto, Kara (McKenna) Taylor (Ian), Orleans, and Sean McKenna (Leslie Vossler), Blairmore, AB, and his two lovely great-granddaughters, Danielle and Emily Taylor. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Art Heikkila at the young age of 51, following a courageous 21 month battle with brain cancer. Art leaves behind his wife Sonja (nee Wischniwsky) and his daughter Stephanie and her husband Andrew Jackson and his son Roman and his wife Katie. JOHN ERNEST McWATT, born on November 19th, 1922 in Guyana SA, passed away peacefully on May 5th, 2016 at the Ottawa General Hospital. He was the Beloved Husband of the late Grace E. Deborah E. Canham (nee Wright) dimmed the lights in her classroom for the last time on 29 April, 2016. Her gift to the world was the ability to reach children, to soothe their worries and to impart the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed. She was exceedingly patient, compassionate and intelligent.Born in Charlottetown, PEI in 1960, she grew up interested in business but ultimately developed the skills of a nurturer, caring for her three younger sisters. Her summers were spent on the red shores of Northumberland Straight while winters were spent cross-country skiing which became a lifelong passion. Read more

Passed peacefully in her bed on Thursday, April 7, 2016. She will be greatly missed by her daughter Linda and son-in-law Rico. She was a loving grandmother to Jason (Kiren) and Samantha (Luke) and great-grandmother to Max, Siena and Madeline. Joan spent her early years in Algonquin Park canoeing and enjoying the outdoors. She moved to Ottawa and was very proud to serve her country as a navy plotter during the Second World War. She spent most of her adult life in Toronto and returned to Ottawa to enjoy her senior years with friends and family. She loved painting, writing poetry, playing cards, knitting and was an avid reader. She had a wonderful sense of humour and always enjoyed a good laugh. She will be forever in our hearts. Anatole (Toly) Kornachuk was beloved father to five children: John (Dana), Deborah (Richard), Hope (Brian), Stephen (Carole), and Philip (Tana). He had eleven grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his precious Ruth (nee Duchesneau), and is survived by brothers Walter and Edward Kornachuk. Born in Lachine, Quebec of new immigrants Paul and Sofia (Zukowska) Kornachuk, Toly earned a B.Eng. from McGill University. After several years in civil engineering (including as Supervising Engineer of Ogdensburg International Bridge), he earned a Bachelor of Divinity. As a pastor and beyond, Toly cared deeply for and helped many people, and he loved to share how a relationship with God is possible through Jesus Christ. Read more

Gabriel Mihalache-Mwadi

Our beloved 7 year old, Gabriel, entered Heaven on March 15th, 2016. He passed away surrounded by family and friends after a brave and courageous 16 month battle with an inoperable form of pediatric brain cancer. People would always say he was a special boy, a wise man in a young body, a crystal child. He loved to express himself through music and dance. John "Scotty" Mains

John “Scotty” Mains passed away peacefully on the morning of January 20, 2016 in his home with a heart full of love and surrounded by his family who adored him. Scotty was born in Larkhall,Scotland to parents John and Elizabeth, where he grew up with his brother Bill. He then emigrated to Canada at the age of 18 where he went on to serve with the Canadian Air Force. Following his time in the military, Scotty began a long, passionate career in teaching where he taught electronics in many locations around the world including Canada, the United States and the Middle East. An avid golfer, Scotty loved warm weather, a nice glass of wine and good company. With a terrific sense of humor, he was quick to smile and always available to lend a helping hand. Read more

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Anicia Delos Santos Cardenas on Tuesday, January 12, 2016. At the age of 86, she died peacefully at home after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Dementia. Robert Michael Zacharko, 63, of Ottawa, Ontario, passed away on Monday, January 4, 2016 following a long illness.Bob was born April 13, 1952 in Montréal, Quebec to Nicolas and Olga Zacharko (nee Wishnoska). He finished his secondary studies at Cardinal Newman High School and went on to complete his undergraduate degree at Concordia University in Montreal. Born in Dublin, Ireland, David’s love for travel and adventure began with the Royal Air Force in Bahrain and Cyprus. After coming to Canada, he worked at the TSE and Foreign Affairs with postings in New York, Paris, London, Brussels, New Delhi and Warsaw. Michael passed away suddenly and peacefully in his home on September 16, 2015 at the age of 63. Dearly loved by his children Kate and Mike and his wife Donna. Predeceased by his father Michael J. Heney and survived by his loving mother Mary. Beloved brother of Peter (Cher), Kevin (Cecile), Paul, and Marianne (Walter). Loving uncle to many nieces and nephews: Ryan, Kyle and MJ; Chelsea and Trista; Alex and Alanna; Kendra; Jonathan and Danielle; Braeden; and Connor, Brandon, and Taylor. Many will remember a business man who actively contributed to the growth of the Orléans community but even more as a loving husband, an inspiring father, a welcoming father-in-law, an affectionate grandfather and proud great-grandfather. He guided us through life until the very end. Beloved husband of 54 years to Yolande Bergeron, loving father of Marcelle (Jean-Yves Bélec), André (Jacinthe Schnupp) and Elaine (Luc Taillefer). He was the cherished grandfather of Michelle Bélec (Scott Varin), Mylaine Bélec, Patrick Taillefer (Karine Brisebois), Joël Taillefer, Pascale Taillefer (Patrick Leduc), Cindy Tourangeau, Benoît Tourangeau and Patrick Longtin (Diana) and great-grandfather of Lyvia, Mikaël, Xavier, William, Adèle and Tristan. He will be sadly missed by his sisters : Gisèle (late Réjean Savage), Lyse (Paul-Émile Bisson) and Ginette (Pierre Sabourin), as well as by many nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. Lois Kemp
(née Spratt)

Peacefully and surrounded by family, at home on July 16th, 2015 at the age of 85. Predeceased by her husband, Eldon Kemp, son Gordon and great granddaughter Gwenevere. She will be missed by her children, daughters-in-law and son-in-law, Susan (Crosby), Evelyn and Don (Budd), Murray and Judy (Brewer), Kevin and Camille (Scully), Diane, Randy and Judy (Boys) and David. Her 22 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren were her pride and joy. She will also be missed by her sister, Lee (deceased Tom McVeigh and Larry Sharpe) and brother-in-law Jim Sunderland, sisters-in-law Ariel Hancock (deceased Alexander), Joyce Whyte (deceased Milton), Grace (deceased Morris), Marion (deceased Ken) and stepsister Lois Long. Lois has also been predeceased by her parents Jim and Ella Spratt, sisters Ruth (Sunderland), Marion and Harold Dillon, Winston and Irene (Hepburn), Wesley and Pauline (Hepburn).

Lois was a very active volunteer in the community as a founder of many Blackburn institutions, including the Banar, Fun Fair, and Girl Guides. She was also a Sunday School teacher and school trustee. Lois became the first woman to be inducted on the Ottawa-Gloucester Sports Club’s “Wall of Fame” for her contribution in bringing the sport of ringette to Gloucester. Her passions included coaching and playing ringette, the Gloucester Historical Society and her beautiful flower gardens around her home. She was very proud of her 16 years of publishing “The Gloucester Leader” and the book "Gloucester Roots”.

Lois inspired others to live life to the fullest. She will be missed by her family and many friends.

Friends and family are invited to visit at the St. Laurent Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 1200 Ogilvie Road (at Aviation Parkway) Monday, July 20th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held Tuesday July 21st at Rothwell United Church (42 Sumac Street) at 11a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Canadian Diabetes Association.

 



Alexander Gordon Carrington Smith

"Gord" left us peacefully after a well-fought battle with brain cancer. He was the beloved husband of Wendy (nee Kaizer), and loving and devoted father to Tyler and Sydney. He will be dearly missed by his parents Harky and Lee Smith of Ottawa, and his brother Chris (Lydia) of Halifax. Special son-in-law of Ray and Nancy Kaizer of Ottawa, and brother-in-law of Jeff Kaizer (Lisa) of Orlando. Dear uncle to William and Maggie Smith and Austin and Lexi Kaizer, and fondly remembered by his aunts, uncles and cousins. Gordo’s Army is huge – he touched so many with his positive attitude, humour, energy, and zest for life; and he consistently reminded us of the value of family, friends and faith. Thank you to the amazing team of health care professionals who cared for Gord, particularly Dr. Garth Nicholas. Diane Curley
(née Girouard)

Passed away, surrounded by her family, on Monday, May 5, 2014, at the age of 70. Beloved wife of Desmond Curley. Loving mother of Jeffrey (Scott) and Janice (Jean-François). Cherished “Mima” of Aidan. She will be sadly missed by her sister Elaine (Denis), as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Predeceased by her siblings : Ken, Wayne and Sharon (Danny). Diane was dedicated to her community and to her church.She was a C.W.L. life member and the first president of the Divine Infant C.W.L. Joan Sherwin
(née Jackson)

Passed away peacefully on September 27th, 2013 at the age of 81. She was the daughter of the late Harry Jackson and Margaret Jackson. She will be deeply missed by her husband Fredrick Sherwin, daughters Michelle and Gillian (Alan Prieur), sons Michael (Jo-Anne Whissell) and Craig Sherwin as well as her grandchildren Casie, Suzanne-Lynne, Emma, Adam, Margaret, Jamie, Dylan and Aidan. She will also be missed by her sister Emily and sister-in-law Mae. She was predeceased by her sisters Dorothy, Nora and brothers Harold, Eric, Kenneth and Gerald. It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Emerson Curran in Edmonton on Tuesday, Nov. 105, 2013. Beloved son to Michael and Catrina (Gosselin), admired brother to Graeme, Liam and Lauren, cherished grandson to Charles and Diane Curran (Dupuis) and Philippe and Sylvia Gosselin (Mior). He will be deeply missed by his many uncles and aunts, 16 cousins, countless friends and former classmates at St. Peter Catholic High School and University of Ottawa. Family and friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod St., on Friday, Sept. 6from 6-9 pm. A funeral mass will be held at Divine Infant Parish, 6658 Bilberry Drive in Orleans, on Saturday, Sept. 21at 11 am. Reception to follow. Calver, Dr. Jerry

Passed away after a lengthy illness surrounded by his family on Tuesday June 11, 2013 at the age of 65 years. He will be dearly missed by his loving wife Sheila, his cherished children Trina Calver (Scott Hendry) and Daryl (Jennifer). Proud grampa of Nora, Rowan, Peyton and Dawson. He is predeceased by his first wife Brenda Cochrane and his father Gerald Sr. Calver. He is survived by his mother Rose Calver and his siblings Theresa Greenlees (Ted), Pam Dickerson (Bert), Brenda Heisz (George), Sherry Steels (Roger), Joan Roddick (late Brad), Noel (Karen) and many nieces and nephews. Jerry was a gregarious, fun loving man, treasured by many. His community was important to him; he was a life member of the Navan Lions Club and founding member/President of the Navan Curling Club. Besides his commitment to Navan village, he was passionate about his scientific work at Health Canada in Biologics as well as his teaching at Ottawa University. Nash, Lori
(née Siteman)

Peacefully on March 1st in her 62nd year after a courageous battle with cancer. Predeceased by her parents George and Mary Siteman (nee Whalen) and sister Theresa Booth. Lori was a loving and devoted wife to husband Lorne, loving mother to her daughter Marcia Pascal (Dan) and son Christopher (Melanie Campeau), and cherished grandmother to Kylie, Cassidy and Holly. Lori will be lovingly remembered by her sister Geneva Murphy (Lloyd) of Fredericton, brothers Cyril Siteman (Janet) of Falmouth, Nova Scotia and James (Jim) Siteman (Mary) of Toronto, brother in law Dennis Nash, and sister in law Ardith Nash of Winnipeg. She will fondly be remembered by her nieces and nephews.
