K. Lindy Cousineau

Komathy ‘Lindy’ Cousineau (née Nadarajah) was born and has lived in Ottawa her entire life.

Showing artistic promise from earliest years, Lindy’s parents enrolled her into the four year Vocational Art Program at the High School of Commerce at age of 14.

Totally immersed in every aspect of art, she mastered black and white photography, watercolors, acrylics, oils and pastels. Since then, Lindy has evolved her artistic style by taking workshops and seminars at the Ottawa School of Art and the Visual Arts Centre, Orleans.

For many years, Lindy was a self-employed computer consultant after completing that program at Algonquin College. After a significant life event, she returned to her first calling: that of an artist. Now, Lindy divides her time between her family and her art.

Public spirit and advocacy for art are her passions: she volunteers her time on the Board of Directors at the Visual Arts Centre, Orléans (VACO), as an art curator for VACO and the CS Alterna Bank Branches in the Ottawa area and demonstrating art at public events such as Festivarts (held annually in Place d'Orléans) and at the Ottawa Tulip Festival.

Her teaching experience is varied and challenging. For the past three years, Lindy taught art to adults with brain injuries and the developmentally delayed as a form of art therapy. She teaches drawing and painting to children, ranging from six to eight and nine to 12 years of age, as well as adults at VACO, local schools and privately. Her private classes include both drawing and painting lessons.

Painting portraits of everyone, including her dog “Chloe” are Lindy’s artistic passion. In her early 20’s, she traveled to many countries and now paints those memories on canvas. The trip to New Orleans still ranks as one of her favourite memories, as reflected in her vibrant paintings of jazz musicians.

Lindy’s repertoire of work also includes glowing florals and images of her visits to her family’s Sri Lankan homeland.

Lindy’s works can be seen in many local venues, including but not limited to, the City of Ottawa Gloucester Gallery, the VACO Gallery (in the Orleans Recreational Centre) and CS Alterna Bank branches in the Ottawa area.
