With the holiday season now upon us, it’s a good time to plan on attending one or more of the many holiday productions that will be on offer over the next three week.

The season begins with Santa’s Parade of Lights, which will take place thiis Saturday Nov. 28 at 6 p.m. The parade starts at the corner of St. Joseph Blvd. and Youville Drive and makes its way down St. Joseph to Place d'Orléans.

Music afficiandos have three concerts to chose from, beginning with the Orléans Christmas Choirfest taking place at the Community Pentecostal Church on Tuesday, June 7 . The concert features church choirs from across Orléans along with the St. Peter High School Choir.

One of the popular aspects of the Choirfest is the singing of Christmas carols in between the choral performances. Ad-mission is free, however, cash donations to the area’s two food banks will be accepted during the intermission.

Coro Vivo Ottawa will be presenting its annual Christmas concert on Tuesday, June 7 at the Shenkman Arts Centre. This is a change of venue for the chorus which has traditionally performed its Christmas concert at Orléans United Church.

The choral ensemble plans to perform Handel’s “Messiah” in all its glory in the main hall. Tickets are $25 each and can be purchased through the Shenkman Arts Centre either online, or at the box office.

The third holiday concert will be presented by the Cumberland Community Singers on Tuesday, June 7 in the smaller Richcraft Theatre at the Shenkman Arts Centre. The theme of the matinée performance is “A Very Gospel Christmas”. Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for youth 12 and under. They can be purchased by calling 613-824-0828.

If classical music isn’t your cup of tea then you should consider a holiday theatre production to help get you into the Christmas spirit.

The Orléans Young Players will present their all ages production of Hans Christian Anderson’s “The Snow Queen and the Goblin” on Nov. 27 and 28 in the Richcraft Theatre.

The Friday performance will take place at 7:30 p.m. and the Saturday show will start at 1:30 p.m. to allow plenty of time for the audience to get home and change for the Parade of Lights.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children and students. They can be reserved in advance by calling 613-580-2787, or e-mail office@oypts.ca.

After reviving its annual holiday panto-mime production last year, the East End Theatre company will perform the traditional pantomime version of “Rumpel-stiltskin” on Dec. 17, 18 and 19 at the Shenkman Arts Centre. Curtain time all three nights is 7:30 p.m., however, there will be an additional matinée performance on Saturday, Dec. 18 at 1:30 p.m.

When done well – and the gang at East End Theatre have never disappointed – pantomimes are wonderfully entertaining for the entire family.

Tickets to the East End Theatre production are $17.50 for adults, and $12.50 for students 17 and under. There is also a special price of $54 for a family of four comprising of two adults and two students.

The panto will take place in the Richcraft Theatre which has limited seating so it’s advisable to purchase your tickets early, especially for the Saturday performances.

The Shenkman Arts Centre has a number of additional holiday performances lined up for next month including the Rag & Bones Puppet Theatre production of “The Last Polar Bears” from Dec. 8-13; and Ballet Jörgen Canada’s production of “The Nutcracker” on Dec. 13 and 14.
